If you’re looking to enhance your performance, support your development, I’d be delighted to work with you

Dr. Tom Mitchell (SEPit) — Sport Psychology & Performance Specialist, FA Licensed Coach Developer

Across all my work, my aim is simple: to help athletes perform with purpose.

Over the past decade, I’ve worked extensively within professional football environments. My experience spans educational support for football scholars, sport science delivery, and applied performance coaching across youth and senior squads. These roles have allowed me to work closely with players, coaches, and multi‑disciplinary teams to create environments that genuinely support athlete development.

My research work centres on the psychosocial development of athletes, talent pathways, and the transitional experiences players navigate — particularly within academy football. I’ve published on topics such as athletic identity, talent development environments, and the broader experiences of academy players.

Alongside my academic role, I support athletes and organisations in applied settings. I currently serve as a Psychology Practitioner with the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS), providing tailored sport psychology support to selected athletes. I am also the Academy Psychology Lead and Coach Developer at Doncaster Rovers FC, offering one‑to‑one support, group workshops, and coach education. Additionally, I work with The Football Association as a Coach Developer, contributing to the delivery of UEFA C qualifications.

I combine academic insight with real‑world experience to help players strengthen their psychological skills, assist coaches in integrating the psychosocial elements of performance, and guide clubs in creating environments where people thrive — both in sport and in life.
